White Island is an active volcano situated 48 km from the coast of Whakatane. It is New Zealand's most active cone volcano, and has been built up by continuous volcanic activity over the past 150,000 years. Access is gained by arranged tour only.
The Kohi Point walk is one of the best short walks in the country. It takes 2-3 hours and includes bush, cliff tops and beach walking. Note, there is a section of the walk that is inaccessible on foot during high tide.
