This walk takes about an hour and a half, walking along a rocky riverbed and then up to the glacier viewing area. Although it's an easy walk it can be dangerous and closed.

Fox Glacier falls 2.5km on its 13 km journey from the Southern Alps down to the coast and ends in lush rainforest only 300 metres above sea level. The valley walk is an easy hours walk and takes you within about 500 metres of the glacier face. Access is just out of the township before the bridge.

The Pancake Rocks and Blowholes are a short walk from where you park your vehicle on the main highway at Punakaiki. They look like giant pancakes from fossils that have been battered by the severe west coast winds and seas. The blowholes are especially spectacular at high tide in a westerly wind when the sea crashes into the rocks and up through the gaps.
